1999
The
1999 season was the first for Northern Ohio in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate
League. After a 6-7 start, the club
was excited to see the arrival of four College World Series participants, Rock
Mills (1st Team All-GLSCL), Brent Boyd, Jeremy Brown (1st
Team All-GLSCL), and Head Coach George “Guido” Aspeitia. Their impact was felt immediately as the
club won their next 10 in a row and 25 of their last 30 to finish 31-12.
The club won their firs two in the
divisional playoffs, ousting longtime GLSCL stalwart Columbus. In the championship series the club came
from behind to defeat the Lake Erie Monarch in game one, but the Monarchs
pitching staff out lasted the club and Northern Ohio had to settle for a second
place finish. The club did finish
with the best overall record in league play and placed Chris Burke on the
Baseball America summer All-American team.
